I am Armando "Mando." I grew up in northeast New Mexico, where the Sangre de Cristo Mountains meet the High Plains and where my family roots run at least 10 generations deep. I was taught to appreciate everything New Mexico. Much of my work, visual and written, is inspired by where I live.
I caught the photography bug a long time ago, when film was still a thing and a dark room was essential. Aside from a couple of workshops and a few pointers from other photographers, I'm mostly self-taught. I look for light and shadow, texture and color, layers and patterns. While junk yards, cemeteries and the New Mexico landscape are some of my favorite things to shoot, I don't limit myself. My work has been purchased by the City of Albuquerque and the State of New Mexico.
